Is Swarm based on a true story?
Series Swarm is partially based on a true story. Describing the series as “a post-truth TV show”, co-creator Donald Glover said the series was based on real events. The idea of celebrities and fandoms is more important than ever.
Donald Glover imagined the story of a person whose life is completely immersed in his obsession with a particular pop star. Fans have also been known to be aggressive on social media when defending the celebrity they love.
He extrapolated and wondered what would happen if one of those fans took their anger out on reality. He discussed it with Janine Nabers, and Swarm was born. They knew the main character would be dark and twisted. They wanted to create “an antihero story”.
By using real events to concoct this story, the show’s creators want audiences to “look outside of themselves and examine the relationship they have with certain celebrities.” She leads the public to reconsider the idea they have of the relationship they have with someone they have never met.
So, even if presented from a fictional angle, every aspect of Swarm is grounded in reality. For that, Swarm is partially based on a true story.
