Noise is a gripping, artfully crafted and superbly acted drama that deals with a real-life issue that touches on social, personal and political aspects, the film risks getting lost amid Netflix’s onslaught of persistent content, so here is a call to not let that happen. But Is Noise inspired by a true story?
Is Noise inspired by a true story?
No, Noise is not based on a true story. The plot is the brainchild of screenwriters Steffen Geypens, Robin Kerremans and Hasse Steenssens. This isn’t the first time Geypens has embarked on a cinematic exploration of a father-son relationship. This film mainly revolves around Matthias and his relationship with his father, Pol, and his son, Julius.
During an interview, Geypens told that he himself had a very complicated relationship with his father. It’s possible that in writing the character of Matthias and his struggle with generational trauma, Geypens drew on some of his own experiences to lend the narrative a certain authenticity and realism.
Although “Noise” conceals its emotional plot behind the sinister and disturbing idea of a conspiracy, its effects are felt throughout the film. Furthermore, the way Noise depicts the trials and tribulations of relationships and amateur parenting is also something many people can relate to.
At the end of the day, Noise does not have solid roots in reality. However, once the psychotic layers of horror are peeled away and the characters are seen on the surface, they portray very realistic and accessible lives. With themes of parenthood, family trauma and conspiracies at its center, Noise shares many similarities with real life. As a result, Noise is not based on a true story.
