Luther Season 5 Ending Summary & Explanation
The central case of Luther Season 5 saw serial killer and heart surgeon Jeremy Lake go on a killing spree, maiming his victims in gruesome ways. Luther and the team were baffled early in the season by Jeremy’s wife, psychiatrist Vivien Lake, who helped him cover up his crimes and gave them a lead, blaming one of his unstable patients.
Luther and Detective Halliday first catch up with Vivien and arrest her while Jeremy wanders off. Luther and his partner, Detective Halliday, finally caught up with Jeremy at the End of Season 5. Luther handcuffed him to a radiator to be picked up later by the rest of the team.
AT the end of Season 5 of Luther, Luther tracked down George and made a deal with him. The two men framed Palmer, and in a confrontation Luther shot him in the shoulder, before George killed him. However, George then took a picture of Luther with the gun above Palmer’s body, ensuring he had the wherewithal to take him down if necessary.
Luther left Benny’s body in the back of a van, despite Mark’s protests, and lied to Alice by telling her that George was dead. Alice, of course, quickly discovered that wasn’t true. The police manage to get to him first, and George makes a deal with them to get their protection, showing Schenk the picture of Luther standing over Palmer’s corpse…
AT the end of Season 5 of Luther, Schenk asked Halliday to bring Luther. She was about to go against that order and let Luther go, but she still had one question to ask. Then, BAM! Alice shot Halliday in the head, killing her instantly.
After attempting to murder George, Alice came to find Luther and killed DS Halliday in cold blood. She did this to get revenge on Luther, furious for betraying him by not killing George and lying to him about it. As the police close in, Luther and Alice face off one last time at a construction site. AT the end of Season 5 of Luther, after a fight, Alice is about to fall off the rafters, but Luther clings to her. She cuts off his hand and (apparently) drops dead. We don’t believe it and we are thinking of a return!
AT the end of Season 5 of Luther, when he discovers the bodies of Halliday and Alice, Schenk arrests Luther, presumably suspected of having murdered all four of them. We now know that Luther: Fallen Sun picks up with Luther in prison. As for what’s next, only time will tell…
