He gets a haircut, gets rid of his glasses, and makes different fashion choices.
This is its new improved version. Things get exciting when he meets Kristy, the new girl at school who also plays in the band. He senses there’s a connection between them, but before he can explore it, Matt gets in the way.
Things have been rocky between Chang and Matt since elementary school. Matt was everything Chang wasn’t. He was popular, confident and good at basketball. When Matt comes between him and Christy, Chang confronts him, which leads to the challenge. Matt claims Chang will never be able to dunk, but Chang tells him he can do it in eleven weeks. Explanation of the end of Le Pari de Chang
To the End of Chang’s Wager, in addition to resuming his training with Deandre, Chang mends the bridges he broke with Chen, Bo, and Kristy. Chang and Chen telling each other that they love each other is so heartwarming. Chang’s reunion with Bo is pretty straightforward. Chang’s conversation with Kristy is very mature, because he admits he thought of her as some sort of prize he had to win.
By admitting all of this, Chang shows that he has learned from his mistakes and that he considers Kristy to be someone dear to his heart. Chang even ends his feud with Matt. To the End of Chang’s Wager, Chang plays in the school team. Although he was good at basketball, he had never sought to join the team.
This time, he makes it to tryouts and ends up playing on the team. In the final scene, his team is playing for the championship and the coach decides to send him to the field. To the End of Chang’s Wager, we see him approaching the basket, and this time, he aims for a dunk. Thus, rid of all that weight, he manages to “destroy the ground and reach the sky” and land a smash during an important basketball game.
The film tells us from the outset that the protagonist is going to smash. But instead of making him a simple outsider, Jingyi Shao decides to make him an imperfect character. He shows that some of his apprehensions are due to the fact that he is an Asian American in modern America. To the End of Chang’s Wager, minor mistakes like cheating or fighting won’t define you if you hold yourself accountable for your actions. By doing so, you do not diminish your dignity. In fact, you admit that you are human and that you are ready to evolve.
